Council Tax Exemption Letters
Under Council Tax legislation, you will be considered as a full time student for council tax purposes if:
• you are enrolled with a 'prescribed educational establishment'
• you are enrolled to attend a course of education lasting for at least one academic or calendar year
• undertaking studies for at least 24 weeks of the year
• you are a student for at least 21 hours per week during term time
Suspended students
The final decision regarding Council Tax discount rests with the relevant local authority and not the University of Huddersfield.
Eligibility
For further information to check eligibility and to obtain a Council Tax letter, you can print your letter via the self service facility in MyHud. To obtain your letter go to MyHud, Click on Student Login, My Studies, My Details and then Choose your Course. Then select for session button. Then look for the Documents container and click on the type of letter you wish to print.
The following letter types can be actioned via this system:
- Bank Account Letter
- Council Tax Certificate
- Proof of Study Letter
Local Authority - Kirklees Council
- If you are living in Kirklees (the University's local authority), you can register your residency online. Therefore, you do not require an exemption letter from us.
