Frequently asked questions

I have not received my e-mail containing details of my username and password.  What should I do?

If you have not received details of your username and password to log onto 'Your Next Step', please contact us and we will send the e-mail to you.

I am having problems logging in, who can I contact?

General advice about entering your username and password

Your username is your student number and the password is your date of birth. These must be entered in the format below:

U and 7 digit student number

eg U1234567

Date of birth ddmmmyy

eg 18jun80 or 01jan84

Be careful, both the username and password may have the number zero, not the letter O.  Remember: a zero should also be entered in front of any single number on your date of birth ie 01.

Failed login

If you've been registered as a student at the University before, your password will be the one that you previously used.

I have transferred courses and am starting year one again in September. Do I get access to Your Next Step?

As you have already enrolled as a student you can access all the information you will need about starting your new course via the Student Hub.  We will contact you by e-mail to advise what you need to do.

I have just received my examination results. Do I need to notify you of my results?

The University will usually receive examination results directly for certain qualifications. If your qualification is displayed in the UCAS exam results list you shouldn't need to notify us of your results. If your offer of a place is conditional upon examination results/qualifications other than those displayed on the list, you will need to send us proof of your results to confirm your place at University. You can send copies of your results by email to using the subject title "Outstanding Qualifications" and the course that you have applied for. Please provide your UCAS ID (undergraduate) or your applicant ID provided in your offer letter (postgraduate).

Alternatively you can print out and complete our Results Report Form with copies of your relevant results/qualifications and and return it to: Student Recruitment Team, University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH.

EU applicants

Applicants from other European countries also need to supply a copy of their original examination transcripts along with a verified translation of their official results.

Non-academic conditions

If your place is conditional on passing a health check or Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance then you do not need to send us your examination results. If you have been asked to obtain a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance as part of your conditional offer then it is your responsibility to check this has been sent to us. Please send the original certificate to your school contact. School contact details are available in the course joining information in the pre-enrolment portal.

I applied for a full-time course, but it is showing as a sandwich course. Is this correct?

Yes, this is correct as your course may be classed as a joint sandwich/full-time course (i.e. four years sandwich/three years full-time). The sandwich course is a full-time course which includes a placement year.

For many courses this may be optional and you can discuss with your tutor during the second year which choice you wish to make.

I have completed 'Step 2: Check your Personal Details' on the portal, but I need to change some of the information I submitted and it won't let me back in. What should I do?

Unfortunately you will not be able to change your details yourself after they have been submitted. Please contact us to request any amendments as we can do these on your behalf. We may require proof before some changes can be made, for example, marriage certificate for change of name.

Why can't I access Steps 2 and 3?

You can access Steps 2 and 3 when you have an unconditional offer. Your offer will be changed to unconditional once your offer conditions (academic and non academic) have been met. Any questions, please contact us.

What happens if I can't complete Your Next Step?

Don't worry, you'll be able to use computers at the main University enrolment event on campus when you arrive. Help will be available from the enrolment team at all stages of the process.

I have completed all the steps, does that mean I have now enrolled as a student?

You have completed the pre-enrolment but still need to enrol on your course when you arrive on campus. Further information on campus enrolment will be supplied at your welcome meeting.
