If your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is due to expire on 31 December 2024 but your course extends beyond this expiration date, then this is because the Home Office is replacing physical visas e.g. visa stickers in passports and BRPs with an online immigration system called an ‘eVisa’. As a result, all BRPs are currently being issued with a validity until 31 December 2024.

Step 1

You can create a UKVI account to access your eVisa via the view and prove service.  Please note this service is free to use. Further information is available here www.gov.uk/evisa

Once you have setup an online UKVI account, it may take up to a week for the UKVI to link your account to your eVisa. After that you should be able to use the view/prove your immigration status service to generate a share code so the University can obtain a copy of your eVisa.  Please do not use the ‘prove your right to work’ service for this as it is for employers only.

Step 2

Once you have generated a share code via view/prove your immigration status, you must email the Immigration & Compliance team (International Office) at eVisa@hud.ac.uk with the following information so we can update your student record:

  1. Your share code – you can copy/paste this or attach a screenshot/PDF
  2. your student number
  3. your date of birth

Please note that this doesn’t affect your visa status in any way as your visa expiry date will remain the same as shown on the Visa Decision Email that you received from the Home Office when your visa was granted. However, should you wish to travel abroad after 31 Dec 2024, you must do so only after you have switched to the eVisa service.
